This Easy 5-min Kujirai-Style Ramen is a simple Japanese ramen hack that's unconventional, yet so TASTY. Instead of a classic ramen broth, the noodles are coated in a rich cheesy sauce made simply with an egg, melted cheese, little bit of water, and the seasonings and dried vegetables from the ramen packet. Break the creamy egg yolk, give it a good stir, and say WOW after the first bite.

What Exactly Is Kujirai Ramen?
This recipe was originally made popular from a Japanese comic series when a character prepared his instant ramen like this. People started making it and it went viral on Korean social media. Of course, I believe he cooked his ramen in a pot - this is the microwave method. I discovered it during our 2020 quarantine days, and I'll admit I was skeptical as I made it. But it truly did not disappoint. I think it's the sauce. Yes. It's DEFINTELY the cheese and the sauce.

Add any cooked protein of choice to your Kujirai-Style Ramen, and serves great with any Asian cucumber salad, any Korean banchan, miso soup, and of course kimchi!

Key Ingredients
- Instant Ramen: Pick any brand that comes with a soup seasoning packet. My go-to brands are Shin Ramen and Jin Ramen.
- Large Egg: The yolk is key and definitely brings the sauce together.
- Sliced Cheese: Good old American cheese. Yes, I know this is unusual. I was hesitant, too. But it works. Feel free to use cheddar or any other cheese you have in the fridge.
- Water: Only about 1 cup of water just to cook the noodles.
- Green Onions: What ramen is completely without chopped green onions?
How To Make Easy Kujirai-Style Ramen

Empty ½ the seasoning packet and the entire dried vegetable packet in microwave-safe bowl.

Add ramen and pour enough water to cover the noodles. Cover and microwave for 2 mins.

Make sure noodles are submerged in water. Crack egg in the middle.

Split two cheese slices in half and lay them on around the egg. Cover and microwave bowl for 90 secs.

Top ramen with chopped green onions.

Egg will continue to cook as you stir and coat the noodles.
Suzy's Tips For Success
- Do not overcook your noodles: Al dente ramen noodles cooks in 2-3 minutes.
- Microwave bowl on a plate: This will prevent a mess just in case of spillage. Also, the plate is easier to handle than the hot steaming bowl.
Best Way To Enjoy Kujirai-Style Ramen
This ramen is best if consumed immediately. Although you can reheat leftovers in microwave, I do not recommend it as the noodles will become soggy. This is the same reason I would not suggest freezing, also.
FAQ
Most definitely! Use a medium saucepan with a lid if you have one. Follow recipe instructions and cover with lid for the last minute of cooking to melt the cheese.
You can substitute rice or gluten-free noodles in place of the ramen. As for the seasoning, please check and read your ramen package.
