Does this copycat version live up to the original iconic Sizzler Cheese Toast? Please try it and let me know! We take creamy salty parmesan butter, spread it over thick sliced bread, and grill it until we get that signature crispy cheese crust. Is it that simple? Yes.

Who else has fond childhood memories of Sizzler's all-you-can-eat salad bar? My family didn't dine out much growing up so when we did, so it was quite a treat. I still remember the cashier handing us a big tray of salad plates and bowls and once we snagged a table, we RAN for that salad bar! And of course, these cheese toasts were TO DIE FOR. It's that addictive CRUST, right?

Why You'll Love This Sizzler Copycat Cheese Toast
It's actually hard to list down reasons why you and the family WON'T love these copycat cheese toasts. You can easily make them in about 10 minutes and they're great to eat alone or as a side. And you only need a handful of ingredients that you most likely already have at home!
A Few Notes About The Ingredients
- Go for thick sliced white bread: I prefer French bread, since it's close to the original. But use sourdough or even Texas toast if you want thicker slices.
- Salted butter: If you only have unsalted butter on hand, be sure to add a pinch of salt. Just a small pinch or so is fine, since the parmesan cheese is salty already.
- Garlic powder: Sizzler didn't use fresh garlic, so neither are we. The trusted garlic powder in your spice pantry is exactly what we're looking for.
- Grated parmesan cheese: There's a debate online whether Sizzler used pecorino or parmesan. After watching a few videos of the Sizzler staff making the cheese toasts and testimonies from former Sizzler employees, I can say it's confidently PARMESAN. I'm a big fan of grating my own cheese from the block, but feel free to use the pre-grated version.
- Paprika: I find it gives it that true toast color, but the small pinch does not provide any taste. It's optional to use, feel free to omit.
How To Make Sizzler Copycat Cheese Toast

Take out butter ahead of time to soften. Beat with mixer until smooth.

Sprinkle in grated parmesan cheese.

Sprinkle in garlic powder and paprika.

Stir and scrape down the sides of the bowl with a spatula. It will have a gritty appearance.

Slather parmesan butter evenly on one side of the bread.

Griddle until crust is crispy and golden. Serve immediately.
Suzy's Tips For Success
- No mixer, no problem: Just grab a trusty rubber spatula and you'll be fine. Keep folding the softened butter until it's creamy and smooth before adding in the cheese.
- Use a griddle if you have one: This will come in handy if you're making a double batch, since you can lay down 4 or more slices at once.
Is It Worth Storing For Later?
This cheese toast is best enjoyed immediately. Toast leftover slices in a toaster oven.
FAQ
A rubber spatula works just as great. Be sure to soften butter to room temperature ahead of time. Stir butter until it's smooth before adding in the cheese.
Of course! There was a small debate if the original Sizzler Cheese Toast was made with pecorino cheese, but many ex-employees have vouched it is parmesan. I tried both cheeses and they're both delicious, just keep in mind pecorino is significantly saltier.

This was freaking delicious. I made just a piece to try it out and I’m so glad I have a ton of more bread for this. Not sure how I can go back to anything else!

Hello thank you for the recipe. I’ve tried to make the toast & it was tasty. One small problem is when I place in pan it cooks & the cheese & butter stick to the pan. I may try again but use my air fryer. Or have you a suggestion please.

Thanks for trying the recipe, Diane! It may depend on what pan you use. If you're using stainless steel vs nonstick, I would recommend you preheat it well and perhaps give a small spritz of nonstick oil spray. I know stainless steel is a bit trickier in making sure it's nonstick (for example, with cooking eggs) so I would do the same exact steps to ensure it won't stick!
