Whip up this magical buttery cinnamon-sugar spread with a hint of vanilla that creates this unbelievably crunchy texture on top your favorite breakfast slice. The whole family will be reaching for seconds in no time!

The Crunchiest Cinnamon Toast

It's a simple creamy spread using softened butter, sugar, cinnamon, and a splash of vanilla. Slather this butter edge to edge on your favorite toast bread, and a quick bake and broil giving it the most perfect golden-brown crunchy layer. You'll be standing over the oven drooling watching it bubble.

Anyone else ate lots of cinnamon toast as a kid? My single mom left for work early every morning, so she always purchased school breakfasts for my brother and I. Many school meals were very underwhelming, but I recall always looking forward to cinnamon toast days. This recipe is 1000 times better, but it still brings back some childhood nostalgia.

This recipe was inspired after watching A Cozy Kitchen's Tiktok video one day. I saw her toast and I immediately knew what I was having for breakfast that day. My son and I both love it! Another toast I can't get enough of is my Sizzler Copycat Cheese Toast - just as simple to make and almost identical to the iconic restaurant.

Why You Will Love This Recipe

Not only will this crunch cinnamon toast pair perfectly with your morning cup of coffee, the kids will love it too with a glass of cold milk. It's made with simple ingredients you usually have on hand, portable to take on-the-go, and it's ready in less than 15 minutes.

Simple Ingredients

  • Bread slices: Your favorite brioche or sandwich bread.
  • Unsalted butter: Softened at room temperature
  • Cinnamon: Any ground cinnamon works - Saigon Cinnamon is my favorite.
  • Granulated sugar
  • Vanilla extract
  • Flaky sea salt: Optional, but highly recommended! It intensifies the cinnamon flavor and balances the sweetness.

How To Make The Crunchiest Cinnamon Toast

Combine all ingredients into a small bowl.

Stir with a rubber spatula until it's a smooth spreadable consistency.

Completely cover one side of bread in an evenly layer.

Use an oven-safe baking sheet. Bake, then broil for the last 2-3 minutes.

Suzy's Tips For Success

  • Take out butter from fridge the night before: Mornings are hectic. Leave it covered on the counter the night before and butter will be ready to go.
  • Add more cinnamon: If you're a true cinnamon lover, add another ½ teaspoon to the mixture.
  • Keep an eye on the oven: Once you turn on the broil setting, the butter will start to bubble and caramelize quickly. Be cautious and take out toast before it burns.

Best Way to Store/Reheat/Prep

I highly recommend enjoying this cinnamon toast immediately. Store any leftovers in fridge for 1-2 day and reheat in oven or air fryer for a few minutes. If you'd like to prep them in advance, spread cinnamon butter mixture on bread slices and freeze. Store topped bread in freezer ziplock bag stacked with parchment paper in between slices. Bake toasts from frozen, adding a few extra minutes in the oven.

  • ½ cup unsalted butter room temperature
  • ⅓ cup granulated sugar
  • 1½ teaspoon ground cinnamon
  • 1 teaspoon vanilla extract
  • 4 slices bread
  • flaky sea salt

Instructions

  • Preheat oven to 350℉ (175℃).
  • Combine softened butter, sugar, cinnamon, and vanilla into a small mixing bowl. Mix with rubber spatula until consistency is smooth and spreadable. Slather butter generously on bread edge-to-edge.
    ½ cup unsalted butter, ⅓ cup granulated sugar, 1½ teaspoon ground cinnamon, 1 teaspoon vanilla extract, 4 slices bread
  • Bake bread for 10 minutes. Switch to broil for 2-3 minutes until toast is golden brown. Sprinkle with flaky sea salt, slice in half, and serve immediately .
